Introduction to dummynet

dummynet is a component of the FreeBSD kernel originally designed to create experimental network testbeds.


it can emulate bandwidth limitation, delays, losses and multipath effects;

operates in real time on live traffic, either local or in transit;

different effects can be applied to different flows.

Since its introduction in FreeBSD, it has been (ab)used as a traffic shaper.
